gave a significant boost to Marmite sales as people became aware of the health
benefits of this good source of five important B vitamins.  Tons of Marmite were
consumed by soldiers during World War I and II where it served as a valuable food
supplement that helped prevent beriberi and other diet related diseases.  Marmite’s
distinctive packaging and flavor have undergone few changes through the years and
the product remains a UK favorite in the savory spread market. (For the true
historians, here is the
long history!)

What Is It?

Marmite is a distinctive tasting, 100% vegetarian, savory spread made from
concentrated yeast extract.  Marmite is most frequently used as a delightful
spread on toast or bread, but it also adds zest to sandwiches, and is enjoyed
as a flavoring in soups, stews and casseroles.  If you are familiar with Marmite,
then, enough said.  If you are new to it, then one word of caution – spread thinly!
Marmite is concentrated and you don’t need much of it to start enjoying an
exciting new flavor.

Marmite is a low calorie food that contains almost
no fat, sugar or saturated fats.  This product is
suitable for both vegetarian and vegan diets.  It is a
very good source of the B vitamins and an excellent
source of vitamin B12 in particular (60% RDA from a
single 4g serving).  Vitamins play an important part in
regulating the chemical balance that God has designed
into our bodies. The B group of vitamins is water soluble.
Unlike fat soluble vitamins which are more readily stored in
the body, water soluble vitamins are typically eliminated from the
body when consumed in excess.  Water soluble vitamins therefore
are needed by the body on a regular basis.
